More than a Cope!

A few months ago we found this glorious cope that Fr. Hardesty wore for the Feast of Corpus Christi.

We were all surprised to find this item still at the parish. These types of historic vestments tended to disappear after the 1960's. It was even a greater shock when on the Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul, while looking for a finger towel, we found not only the matching chasuble but also some other great Roman chasubles as well. These items had been kept safely tucked away in some drawers in the sacristy.

Unfortunately, over time the chasuble did take some wear and tear, with the front and back having some tearing. Despite searching high and low, we have been unable to find the matching stole or maniple.

Also, we found a beautiful red velvet Roman Chasuble with matching stole and a black chasuble as well.

It appears as though none of the maniples survived, and only a few of the stoles. There is also a complete Gold High Mass set (Casuble, Dalmatic, and Tunicle plus stoles set minus maniples) as well has several old gothic chasubles.

It is amazing what one can find when you go looking for a finger towel.

There will be a Low Mass this Thursday for the Feast of the Ascension of Our Lord. It will be at 6:00 PM at St. Catherine's in New Haven, KY. We hope to see you there.

Also, due to the generosity of this group we were able to have restored the old chalice that was at the parish. Here is a picture of the chalice before it was restored.

It was very worn out and in need of a good restoration. Here is the after shot.

Keep an eye out this Thursday for this historical item of the parish to be back in use.

Ascension Thursday

There will be a Low Mass for the Feast of the Ascension on May 25. Traditionally this Mass has been known as Ascension Thursday as Jesus ascended into heaven 40 days after Easter, which always falls on a Thursday. In the new calendar the Feast it typically moved to following Sunday, but in the 1962 calendar, it is maintained on the 40th day, a Thursday.

We hope that you can join for the feast day on the 25th at 6:00 PM.

Low Mass for St. Matthias Feb. 24

Saint Matthias.PNG

There will be a low Mass offered on February 24 at 6:00 PM for St. Matthias at St. Catherines. St. Matthias was the last apostle to be appointed as a replacement for Judas.

Acts 1:21-26

21 Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus was living among us, 22 beginning from John’s baptism to the time when Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witness with us of his resurrection.”

23 So they nominated two men: Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias. 24 Then they prayed, “Lord, you know everyone’s heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen 25 to take over this apostolic ministry, which Judas left to go where he belongs.” 26 Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias; so he was added to the eleven apostles.
